I grew up between two places. India, where my name meant something the moment it was spoken, and New York, where I’ve built my life. When friends here started having babies, I kept hearing the same quiet worry at every gathering: “My child may never really speak my language.” I understood it completely. So much of who we are lives inside our mother tongue, and it slips away faster than anyone expects.

Little Roots is my answer to that. It doesn’t ask a busy family to teach a whole language overnight. It begins with the one word every family already agrees on, the baby’s name, written in your script and placed on the wall from day one. Before a child can speak it, they can see it. Every piece is designed here in New York City, previewed by you before anything is made, and reviewed by a real person so the script is exactly right.
